Witness Name Role Notes
?, Elizabeth (Betsy) Principal Moore Barnett’s widow
Alvis, Zachariah Charles Mention Moore Barnett signed a note on 22 November 1826, promising to pay Chas Alvis $55 “currint mony of Alabama” on or before 25 December 1826. On 12 Jan 1829, Elizabeth Barnett was summoned to appear before the County Court Judge on 19 Jan to show cause as to why administration of Moore’s estate should not be granted to Zachariah C Alvis, who had applied to be appointed as such.
Barnett, Andrew Archibald Jackson Steele Minor Heir Named as “Archibald J S Barnett.”
Barnett, Hugh Administrator $1000 bond signed 19 Jan 1829.
Barnett, James H Witness Many documents in the file were signed or executed by James H Barnett. Moore & Elizabeth’s son was still being identified as a minor heir as late as February 1832, so the James H Barnett who executed those documents is likely the older one, who was enumerated in Madison County, Alabama, in the 1830 census, living near Hugh Barnett.

Faulkner, John W Mention Looks to have been a storekeeper. There is a list of goods bought by Moore Barnett from “Hunt & Faulkner” (unsure about the first name - could have been Hank L?). The amount due is $31.26; appears to be a ledger book page. There is a note at the bottom of the page signed by what appears to be “Hunt & Faulkner” saying that on 1 Jan 1829, they received a note from Hugh Barnett on the amount.
Garrett, Lewis Mention
Garrison, Ulysses Mention On 7 May 1827, Moore Barnett signed a note promising to pay Ulysses Garrison “two dollars 12 (1/2?) cents on or before the first day of January next.”

Peace, William Mention
Philpott, A Buyer
Sanderson (Saunderson), James J Appraisor
Sanderson (Saunderson), Lewis Appraisor
Thomason, Elisha Mention (Name is also spelled “Thomison”) There is a note in Moore Barnett’s handwriting, dated “this 10th day of January 1827,” promising to pay Elisha Thomison an amount “to be discharged in the curent bank notes of the state of Tenessee” which leads us to believe the Elisha Thomison lived in Tennessee. Madison County is on the Alabama / Tennessee border, directly south of Lincoln County, Tennessee, in which an Elisha Thomison was enumerated during the censuses of 1830 through 1850. Several internet references show this Elisha Thomison as having been married to an Ann Barnett. One such site is here: Pea Ridge Relations (link opens in a new page). We will address this extremely intriguing information at a later time.
Thompson, William Mention
Timmons, Thomas Mention
Waldrope, B Buyer
Williams, D W Buyer
Woodson, Philip, Jr Mention 6 March 1829; $3.50 received from Hugh Barnett for publishing notice 40 days on administration of Moore Barnett, dec’d.
